POETRY IN SCHOOLS! IN 2015 QPF LAUNCHED THE FIRST EVER INTER-SCHOOL SLAM IN QLD.
SLAMMED! 2017 WILL SEE TEN SE QLD SCHOOLS SLAM OFF AT THE FINAL AT QPF.
SlammED! 2017 is again proudly co-presented by State Library of Queensland, building on the pioneering education program originally created by poets David Stavanger & Pascalle Burton. SlammED! 2017 will again see Kelvin Grove State School’s Simon Kindt (a local poet and teacher) back on board as SlammED! Project Officer, helping QPF liaise with the ten schools and building on his previous work in getting poetry & spoken word into QLD schools.
And this year’s invited schools slamming off in heats between 17th July and the 4th August are:
Kelvin Grove State College, Music Industry College,Brisbane Girls Grammar, Aquinas College, North Lakes College, Forrest Lake State High, Marsden State High School, Nambour State College, and Ormeau State High.
From there the top two students from each school heat will then move onto a poetry masterclass on Saturday 12th August @ The Edge then on to the big SlammED! final at the Queensland Poetry Festival in the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts on Saturday 26th August 930am – 11.30am. The final will be held in the JWCOCA main theatre and hosted by Simon Kindt. It will also feature an international guest spoken word artist.
The winner of this year’s SlammED! will receive:
- A mentorship with an established Queensland poet/writer/spoken word artist
- A QPF poetry book pack
- A 10 min feature set at the 2018 Queensland Poetry Festival
- A professional audio and video recording of 1 x poem
- Publication of 2 x poems in Pressure Gauge Journal
