Laurie May is a Central Australian poet hailing from the Gulf of Carpentaria. Forever searching for an understanding of her own identity, Laurie explores themes of family, poverty, heartache and the ‘new’ Australian identity. Laurie represented Alice Springs in the Australian Poetry Slam in 2012 and has gone on to perform at festivals and on stages and run workshops throughout Australia and New Zealand. She now directs the Red Dirt Poetry Festival and The Dirty Word in Alice.
